From Germany we were fortunate enough to be posted to Cyprus for 3 years. We lived in a rented property (known as a hiring) in Famagusta. The house was only 200 yards from the wonderful, sandy beach so, for the first year at least we spent most afternoons there. Cyprus was followed by time at Bramley in Hampshire and Kineton in Warwickshire. With discharge only two years away and a posting to Chilwell (Nottingham) offered we bought a house at Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire. Whilst living in the house at Bilsthorpe Elsie found employment as a Quality Examiner for Marks and Spencer within a lingerie factory firstly at Ollerton then at Kirkby-in-Ashfield. The posting to Chilwell never materialised as I was selected for a commission, therefore, a new career was born. On commissioning we moved to Viersen near Moenchengladbach, Germany. For most of her time in Germany Elsie assisted at the nursery school and also with the Brownies. This was followed by tours in Andover, (once again Elsie assisted with the Brownies). Additionally, Elsie enrolled as a civil servant - see next entry. After Andover we moved to Belize, Deepcut and Stanmore. The house in Bilsthorpe was sold in 1976 and fresh roots were subsequently planted in Frimley Green in 1984 where we remained ever since.
