In those days we did not qualify for a military house, therefore, were doomed to be separated immediately. Not so decided Elsie. She tramped the streets of Aldershot and found a small but ideal one bedroom flat in Church Hill - just by Manor Park. Additionally, she swiftly found full time employment as a shop assistant with The Shamrock Linen Shop sited in what is now the Wellington Shopping Centre. A year later I was posted to Hanover, Germany. After a brief separation Elsie joined me in Germany (I had moved to Viersen from Hanover in the interim period) where we lived in a hotel for the first year before moving into a military house. On 17th May 1963 Elsie gave birth to Michael in the RAF Hospital at Wegberg.
